Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University is an independent Catholic institution, sponsored by the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady, North American Province. Evolving from the foundation of excellence begun in 1923 by Our Lady of the Lake School of Nursing, this newest of independent universities primarily educates students to serve as health care providers. Fully accredited as a four-year institution, the University has a liberal arts and science curriculum of core courses selected to provide students with the ability to think critically, logically, and creatively, and to communicate effectively. Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University also espouses the goals of life-long learning and seeks to provide educational programs that support personal and professional growth. Since its founding in 1990 as Our Lady of the Lake College, the University has grown significantly from an initial enrollment of 120 to more than 1,800 students, making it one of the fastest growing postsecondary institutions – public or private – in Louisiana.
